STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS

Community Outreach Workers (COW)

Aims to promote awareness and education of diverse community needs. COW develops and facilitates volunteer opportunities for students while fostering the value of civic engagement. Collaborating with various community partners and agencies, COW strives to develop service and civic engagement opportunities both on and off campus---extending the spirit of Penn State Abington into the community. Members can participate in hands-on experience, build sustainable relationships, increase their networks, and promote leadership and personal growth.

Period at Abington

When people who are low income and/or without homes cannot afford menstrual products, they resort to using unclean methods like toilet paper, socks, rags, or brown paper bags. This can lead to dangerous infections such as toxic shock syndrome. Help us serve those in need and break the stigma of women's menstrual health. Because having your period is not a luxury and menstrual hygiene is not a privilege, it's a right. Period. We run education workshops via zoom to reshape the way people think, talk, and learn about women's menstrual health. We distribute menstrual products to those in need in the Abington and Philadelphia community!

Abington Benefiting THON

A community of students who raise money for a common goal: to conquer pediatric cancer. There are many organizations throughout Penn State and several commonwealth campuses including Penn State Abington. The largest student-run philanthropy in the world, Penn State Dance Marathon (THON) has raised more than $157 million for pediatric cancer. This number will continue to grow with the countless volunteers that contribute to THON each year. THON fundraising season culminates in a 46-hour no-sleeping, no-sitting dance marathon in February at Penn State University Park's Bryce Jordan Center. The children that we meet who are battling/have battled pediatric cancer are the biggest heroes of all and we "THON" so that one day cancer will no longer exist. "THON is a year-long event. THON is soliciting. THON is canning. THON is people. THON is dancing. THON is pain. THON is the children. Most of all, though, THON is seeing real heroes…. One day we will dance in celebration. Until then, we'll dance for a cure." FTK ÔØû
