Outdoor sports can have a significant positive impact on well-being. Not only do sports reduce stress, they also give people ways to bond and practice collaboration, while reaping the physical and mental health benefits of exercising. Team sports can boost self-esteem, build teamwork skills, and help people build a close community of supportive peers. This all can aid in students' recovery from mental health and/or substance use concerns.
